I first tried making a cooked mango syrup, as I did for my Strawberry Matcha Latte and Blueberry Matcha Latte, but I found that fresh mango puree works the best, just like I used fresh bananas in my Banana Matcha Latte. It captures the bright tropical flavor in a glass!

What Is a Mango Matcha Latte?

A mango matcha latte is a tropical iced latte made with fresh mango puree, milk, and whisked matcha. The sweet fruitiness of mango balances matcha's bold, earthy flavor, creating a refreshing and tropical drink for summer.

I really love the mango and matcha flavor combination. It brings together the best of both worlds: a creamy, rich matcha latte and tropical sweetness. That's why I also created Mango Matcha Smoothie and Mango Matcha Latte Popsicles. This flavor pairing never fails!

Why You'll Love This Recipe

  • Refreshing and tropical - Sweet mango and earthy matcha make a bright, fun flavor combo.
  • Easy to make at home - Turn your kitchen into a coffee shop, and this simple drink comes together so easily.
  • Naturally sweetened - Ripe mango adds a lot of sweetness with the help of a little maple syrup.
  • Beautiful layered drink - The golden mango, creamy milk, and green matcha create a stunning color contrast, which I think represents a summer color palette!
  • Easy to customize - Use dairy-free milk, frozen mango, or adjust sweetness to your taste.
  • Perfect for summer - Cold, fruity, and energizing for warm days.

Ingredients

Ingredients for mango matcha latte: fresh mango, ceremonial matcha powder, oat milk, lime, and maple syrup on a wood board.

For the Mango Puree

  • Mango: Champagne mango works well in this recipe. Peel, remove the seed, and chop to make a puree. Use ripe and
  • Maple syrup: You can also use honey or granulated sugar. If mangoes are not as sweet, add more to your liking.

For the Matcha

  • Matcha: Use ceremonial-grade matcha. Wondering which matcha to use in lattes? Check out the Best Matcha Powder for Mango Matcha Latte section below!
  • Oat milk: You can also use other milks like almond milk, coconut milk, or whole milk.
  • Ice cubes

See recipe card for quantities.

How to Prepare Matcha (traditional Japanese Whisking Method)

Traditional whisking method with a bamboo whisk creates a clump-free, smooth, frothy tea. It's the best method to bring out the bold matcha flavor.

To make mango matcha latte, sifting matcha through sieve to remove any clumps.
  1. In a small bowl, sift in matcha powder. I like 3g (about 1.5 teaspoons) of my matcha for my latte. If you like bold flavor, use 4g (about 2 teaspoons).
Showing the process of yusamashi, pouring hot water into a cup to slightly cool, making it the best temperature.
  1. Use 158-176°F (70-80°C) water for the best flavor. Use a kettle with temperature control, or slightly let the boiling water cool. Traditional Method: Bring water to a boil, then pour it into a clean cup. This cools down the water slightly. Then pour it into matcha.
Whisk matcha vigorously for about 15 seconds with a bamboo whisk for mango matcha latte.
  1. Add hot water and use a bamboo whisk to whisk vigorously until smooth and foamy on the surface. Use "M" or "W" motion.
Brushing the surface of matcha with a bamboo whisk to eliminate any large air bubbles.
  1. Once froth forms, brush the surface with the tip of the bamboo whisk, keep using "M" or "W" motion. This step reduces large bubbles and makes the froth extra creamy.

Hot Water Temperature for Matcha: Boiling water can make your matcha taste bitter. Use 158-176°F (70-80°C) water for the best taste. A kettle with temperature control is so useful. If you don't have one, don't worry. My go-to method is: bring water to a boil, then pour it into a clean cup to cool down the water slightly. Then use it in matcha.

How to Make Mango Matcha Latte

Pouring smooth fresh mango puree into a glass tumbler as the base for an iced mango matcha latte.
  1. Make the mango puree: In a small blender, combine mangoes and maple syrup. Blend until smooth.

  1. Assemble Mango Matcha Latte: Pour the mango puree and fill the glass with ice cubes. Pour oat milk and the whisked matcha (see the section above). Mix well and enjoy! Adjust the sweetness by adding more syrup to your taste.
  2. For a hot matcha latte, steam or warm the milk before adding it to a mug.

Best Mangoes to Use

I use champagne mangoes in this recipe mainly because of their size. One champagne mango makes just enough puree for a glass of latte.

But really, use whatever mangoes that are in season! Juicy, tender, and extra sweet mangoes work well in this recipe. My favorite is Ataulfo mangoes (also called Champagne mangoes) and Kent mangoes.

Bigger mangoes make more puree, so use ½ cup per glass.

Pro tip: if you have overripe mangoes that are a bit too mushy to snack on, they're perfect for making this latte!

Underripe mangoes are not the best, as they're a little fibrous when mixed into a smooth matcha latte.

When ripe, seasonal mangoes are not available, don't worry. Frozen mangoes work just fine, and they're convenient and more affordable than fresh ones. Just thaw frozen mango chunks and use them in making puree.

Best Matcha Powder for Mango Matcha Latte

I always recommend ceremonial-grade matcha when making matcha lattes and drinks. But you really don't need the highest-quality ceremonial-grade matcha, as tropical mango flavor can overpower the delicate, umami-forward flavor profile of premium matcha powders.

So, I recommend an affordable ceremonial-grade matcha for this mango matcha latte recipe. It has the best balance of bold flavor and smooth taste.

I personally don't use culinary-grade matcha for drinking. It often has a bitter flavor and a yellowish color. It's not as present in drinks.

What Does Mango Matcha Taste Like?

Mango matcha is sweet and refreshing with a tropical fruitiness and rich matcha flavor. Mango puree makes this drink extra creamy, almost like a smoothie, while adding natural sweetness.

Tropical mango flavor mellows out the matcha's earthy tones. So this drink is perfect for those who are new to matcha.

Tips for Perfect Mango Matcha Latte

  • Use ripe sweet mangoes: Juicy and soft mangoes are better! Avoid firm and fibrous ones. Ripe mango adds natural sweetness and fuller flavor.
  • Blend the mango until smooth: A silky puree blends in matcha and creates the creamy texture! And you don't want to feel the stiff fiber in your matcha latte.
  • Sift the matcha first. Fine matcha powder clumps easily due to static and moisture. Sifting helps prevent clumps in the tea.
  • Use hot, not boiling water: Boiling hot water can make matcha taste bitter.
  • Adjust sweetness to taste. If your mango is tart, add a little maple syrup or honey.
