Ingredients
This simple homemade applesauce is made with a handful of wholesome ingredients!
- Apples – To give a cute pink hue to the applesauce, use apples with vibrant deep red skin. I used Pink Lady apples for this recipe!
- Maple Syrup – Maple syrup adds caramel-y natural sweetness. You can omit maple syrup to make it sugar-free apple sauce.
- Cinnamon – Adds warmth to the apple sauce! Use both ground and stick if you have.
- Lemon Juice – Lemon juice keeps the pink color and adds refreshing acidity to the applesauce.
- Sea Salt – Salt enhances the natural sweetness of apples.
How to Make Pink Applesauce
The key to the beautiful rose/orange applesauce is to cook the apple with their skin on. So skip the peeling, core, and chop up the apples.
- In a pot, combine all the ingredients. Cover and cook over medium heat until soft, for about 15- 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Let cool.
- Remove the cinnamon stick if using. Use a hand blender to puree for the desired consistency, chunky or smooth. Taste and add more maple syrup or water for your desired sweetness and consistency. Divide into individual jars and enjoy.
If you don’t have a hand blender, you can also use a potato masher(for the chunky sauce) or blender. I love my Vitamix for the smooth applesauce!
Hint: You can of course peel the skin to make traditional applesauce. Keep the apple skin to add extra nutrition and a pop of color, or peel it away for a smooth texture, the choice is yours!
