How to make Apple Crisp Syrup

This macchiato recipe mainly consists of three elements: apple crisp syrup, milk, and an espresso shot.

Homemade apple crisp syrup is the magical ingredient that adds a warm and cozy flavor to a regular macchiato. And the ingredients are something you might already have in your kitchen or something you can easily gather.

  • Maple syrup
  • Apple
  • Lemon juice
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Sea salt

First, dice the apple. Small cubes cook faster and infuse more flavor into the maple syrup. Use your favorite variety of apples.

Then add all the ingredients of the syrup. Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best result. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat and cook until the apple is soft. It takes about 5-10 minutes. Stir from time to time to prevent the apple from burning on the bottom of the saucepan.

Once apple cubes are cooked, remove from the heat and let cool a bit. If you have time, wait until the mixture is completely cooled.

Lastly, strain the syrup to separate the syrup and apple chunks. I usually set a fine-mesh sieve over a small bowl or measuring cup and pour the mixture through it. Push down with the back of the spoon to squeeze every last drop of the syrup.

Save cooked apples for other uses. See the FAQ section for more usage suggestions.

Transfer the syrup to a clean jar and enjoy making your macchiato!

How to make Iced Apple Crisp Macchiato

Iced Maple Apple Crisp Macchiato is the best way to enjoy the sweetness and refreshing apple flavor of this drink. To make, you need:

  • Apple Crisp Syrup
  • Espresso shot
  • Oat milk or any milk of your choice.
  • Ice cubes

First, add the syrup and fill the glass with ice cubes.

Next, froth the milk using a hand-held frother or milk frother. Opt for barista blend plant milk if you want extra form to your macchiato. I personally like regular oat milk for my latte and think it works perfectly fine!

Add the frothed milk and pour an espresso shot over it. Drizzle with more syrup and cinnamon powder if you like extra fun and sweetness on top!

Add more or less syrup to your liking to adjust the sweetness and apple flavor.

How to make Hot Apple Crisp Macchiato

The difference from an iced recipe is the temperature of the milk! Warm up the milk on a stovetop or microwave. Then froth to make warm foamy milk. Milk frother might have a warming function.

Add syrup and frothed milk in a mug. Pour espresso over it and enjoy!

FAQ

How to store the Apple Crisp Syrup?

Let cool the syrup and store it in an airtight container or a jar. Keep it in the refrigerator and enjoy it within 2-3 days. As it’s made with real fruit and without refined sugar, I recommend not storing it long like regular syrup. Use a clean jar and spoon to prevent bacteria from glowing.

What to do with the Apple Crisp Syrup other than making coffee?

Serve it with pancakes, waffles, oatmeal, and yogurt bowls! It gives a nice cozy touch to any food it is served with. Teas, Chai, and regular lattes are also great places to add this syrup.

What to do with the discarded apples used to make the syrup?

Don’t just discard the cooked apples. Apples are cooked in maple syrup, so it’s so tender and sweet like apple pie filling! Add it to your breakfast staples like pancakes, oatmeal, and yogurt bowl. It’s also going to be a great mix-in to baked goods like muffins and cake loaves.
