What is Buffalo Sauce

Buffalo Sauce, or Buffalo wing sauce, was invented for Buffalo wings served at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, N.Y. in 1964. Crispy deep-fried chicken wings are tossed in a spicy, salty, tangy sauce with a side of celery and blue cheese.

Classic Buffalo Sauce is a mixture of hot sauce and melted butter, resulting in a creamy texture and rich taste. But if you're like me and want to avoid too much butter(it feels heavy on my stomach) or need to avoid dairy, dairy-free Buffalo Sauce is 100% possible without sacrificing the taste!

Instead of melted butter, use extra virgin olive oil. Olive oil also creates a creamy sauce, like it's the classic one.

Ingredients of Olive Oil Buffalo Sauce

  • Hot Sauce: Use your favorite hot sauce.
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Use high-quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil for the best result.
  • Maple Syrup: A little sweetness to balance out the flavor.
  • Garlic and Onion Powder: Add a boost of flavor.

How to make Buffalo Sauce

Making this Buffalo sauce is so easy! Just add all the ingredients to a bowl and whisk them together. You can alternatively add all the ingredients to a jar and shake well!

A scoop of olive oil buffalo sauce.
