Ingredients of Hot Spiced Fruit Bake
- Apples – Baked apples are irresistibly delicious! You can use your favorite type of apple for this recipe. I used Pink Lady apples as they retain the bright red/pink color after baking.
- Pears – I used Bartlett pears but other varieties also work.
- Oranges – I used regular ones for this recipe. Peel off the skin and slice.
- Cranberries – Grab a bag of fresh cranberries that is available during the Holiday season.
- Grapes – I used green grapes for the refreshing sweetness.
- Lemon Juice – Use freshly squeezed lemon juice.
- Butter – Butter adds a fresh-out-of-the-oven baked goods aroma to this simple, warm roasted fruit dessert. Use vegan butter instead to make this recipe dairy-free and vegan.
- Bourbon Maple Syrup – Since this recipe is for holiday gatherings, I wanted to add something extra to add festive feelings. Bourbon maple syrup is aged in Bourbon barrels and has a smoky and rich flavor. But, of course, you can use regular maple syrup.
- Nuts – adds a nice crunch and rich flavors.
- Spices – Cinnamon and nutmeg add warmth to this dessert.
- Ice Cream – A scoop of vanilla ice cream completes this dessert. Use vegan ice cream instead to make this recipe dairy-free and vegan.
How to make Hot Spiced Fruit Bake
Preheat the oven to 300°F.
Start with cutting up the fruits. Core the apples and pears and slice thinly. Peel the oranges and slice thinly, removing any seeds.
In a large bowl, add apples, pears, oranges, cranberries, and grapes. Drizzle over lemon juice and toss together. Set aside.
In a small bowl, combine melted butter and maple syrup. You can melt the butter using a microwave or double boiler. Stir in cinnamon and nutmeg. Add pecans and hazelnuts and toss to coat the nuts with the butter mixture entirely.
Drizzle just the spiced maple butter mixture over the fruit while reserving the nuts in the bowl. You can use a spoon to keep the nuts in the bowl while drizzling the butter mixture. Toss the fruit well with the spiced maple butter.
Transfer the fruit to a baking dish in a single layer.
Scatter with the reserved nuts on top of the fruit layer.
Bake for 1 hour until the fruit is soft.
Divide into serving bowls. Enjoy as is or serve with vanilla ice cream on top.
Serving Suggestions
Hot cooked fruit is light and healthy, making it a great addition for Thanksgiving dinner or Holiday breakfast and brunch.
When you’re serving this recipe as a warm fruit dessert after dinner, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to make it even richer!
Variations
This recipe is really forgiving and you can adjust your recipe depending on your needs and what you have in your kitchen.
For the fruits, I used the ones that most reflect the fall/winter flavors, but you can use the fruit interchangeably. If you can’t find one of the ingredients listed in the recipe, add more of the other fruits.
Adding dried fruits is also a fun idea! Raisins and dried cranberries would be a great addition.
Feel free to swap out pecans and hazelnuts with your favorite nuts. I find that pecans and hazelnuts capture those festive flavors best, but almonds, cashews, and walnuts are great alternatives too.
