What is Coconut Matcha Cloud?

This viral Coconut Matcha Cloud recipe is made of two unexpected elements: velvety matcha cold foam and refreshing coconut water. It might sound like a questionable combination at first(for me too!), but trust me, it works beautifully hand in hand.

It’s like a cola float, fizzy soda and creamy vanilla ice cream make a nostalgic treat. This coconut water matcha drink carries nostalgic soda vibes, but makes it into a healthy, wellness drink! It’s like dirty soda, only lighter, greener, and much more nourishing.

Once you’ve tried, you’ll never go back and see why people on the internet are so obsessed with this refreshing drink!

Why you’ll love this Recipe

Creamy cold foam and coconut water are surprisingly delicious together.

  • Hydration meets energy boost.
  • Gentle energy boost from matcha.
  • Sweet, fluffy foam on top (who doesn’t love?)
  • Need just a handful of ingredients.
  • Aesthetic ; )

Ingredients and Substitutions

  • Heavy Cream – You can use regular or dairy-free whipping cream.
  • Oat Milk (or any milk of your choice) – A splash of milk makes whipped cream runny and airy, perfect for pouring over coconut water.
  • Maple Syrup – A touch of sweetness makes cold foam so addictive. You can also use other sweeteners like agave syrup, honey, or even regular sugar.
  • Matcha Powder – Use ceremonial-grade matcha powder for the tastiest matcha flavor! High-quality matcha has a vibrant color and adds a pop of color.
  • Coconut water – Hydrating coconut water is perfect for the warm season!

Step-by-Step Recipe Instructions

Sifting matcha into cream.

Use a hand-held milk frother to froth until thick and airy.

Pouring matcha cold foam on coconut water.
  1. Fill a glass with ice cubes and add coconut water. Pour matcha cloud on top. Mix and enjoy!

Matcha Cold Foam is not green enough? I used 3g of matcha powder in this recipe to add enough matcha flavor and color to the cold foam while preventing caffeine overload. But, I know some people love an extra mood boost or want to make it even greener. You can add 1-2g more matcha powder to this recipe to brighten up your drink.

How to Layer & Serve for Best Presentation

  • To create beautiful layers, pour coconut water on the bottom of the glass, add ice cubes, and top with the matcha cold foam. Ice cubes keep the layers separate until mixing with a straw to enjoy!
  • Use coconut water that has a pretty rose hue to create a beautiful contrast to matcha.
  • Garnishing ideas: dusting matcha powder on top or adding a mint sprig.

Variations

  • Add vanilla paste or extract to matcha cold foam to add comforting flavor.
  • Add strawberry jam + oat milk instead of coconut water to make a strawberry matcha.
  • Swap coconut water for brown sugar chai latte to make a viral Baby Yoda Starbucks drink at home.
  • Milk + espresso + matcha cold foam for dirty matcha vibes.

FAQ

Can I make matcha cold foam without dairy?

Yes! Use non-dairy heavy cream to make a foamy foam.

Is coconut water matcha hydrating?

Yes! Coconut water is naturally rich in electrolytes like potassium and magnesium, making this drink an excellent hydrating choice. But keep in mind that matcha contains caffeine, which has a diuretic effect. So enjoy in moderation.

What’s the difference between matcha latte and matcha cold foam?

Matcha latte is made of milk and matcha prepared with hot water. Matcha cold foam, on the other hand, is a creamy, fluffy foam made by whipping milk with matcha powder, and it’s usually used as a topping for lattes or other drinks.
