Healthy Creamy Lemon Basil Salad Dressing is rich and creamy, but refreshing at the same time. It’s a great salad dressing for summer salad, pasta salad, fish, and vegetables. It’s easy to make and easy in under 5 minutes. Tahini makes this salad dressing so creamy without mayonnaise or yogurt, making this recipe dairy-free and vegan.

This creamy basil salad dressing goes well with a lot of salads and dishes. I love enjoying this dressing over summer salads with many fruits for the refreshing side or main. Add tofu, salmon, or chicken to the salad to make it a nourishing meal. The possibilities are endless!

Ingredients

  • Lemon Juice: Freshly squeezed lemon is the best! You’ll need 1-2 lemons for this recipe.
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Good quality olive oil is the key to any salad dressing! Use your favorite brand.
  • Tahini: Tahini makes this dressing so creamy and rich without mayonnaise or yogurt, making this recipe dairy-free and vegan.
  • Dijon Mustard: Adds an acidic kick to the dressing.
  • Maple Syrup: You can also use other sweeteners like agave syrup or honey.
  • Fresh Basil: Adds this dressing with a beautiful green hue and flavor.
  • Garlic Powder, Sea Salt, and Black Pepper: Adds flavor.

How to Make the Creamy Basil Salad Dressing

For the equipment, you’ll need:

  • Personal-Size Blender: The recipe makes about ⅔ cup of dressing. So a regular-size blender(like 48 to 64oz capacity) is too big for this recipe. If you have a personal-size blender, like one for making smoothies and sauces, that’ll work great! If you only have a regular-size blender, don’t worry. It will work too, just scrape down the side from time to time to help the dressing blend smoothly.

Making this dressing is very simple. In a blender, add all the ingredients of the dressing and blend until smooth.

The dressing is very thick, almost like a consistency of mayonnaise. Stir the dressing between blending if a blender has a hard time blending. Add ½ to 1 tablespoon of water for your desired consistency. Taste and add more salt and pepper for your taste.

  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • ⅓ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 Tablespoons tahini
  • 1 Tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons maple syrup
  • 1 cup fresh basil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • A pinch sea salt
  • A dash freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions
 

  • In a blender, add all the ingredients of the dressing. Blend until smooth. The dressing is very thick, stir the dressing if it’s difficult to blend. Add ½-1 Tablespoon of water if the dressing is too thick. Taste and add more salt and pepper.
