Easy Poached Pears in Apple Cider, Honey, and White Wine

Poached Pears are so elegant yet easy to make. Pears are cooked with warm spices to make them tender and perfect for the holiday season.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 Bartlett or Bosc pears
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 1 cup white wine
  • 2 Tablespoons honey
  • 2 strips lemon zest
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions
 

  • Peel the pears and slice off the bottom to let them stand upright.
  • In a pot, combine apple cider, white wine, honey, lemon zest, cinnamon sticks, and star anise. Bring to a boil.
  • Add pears into the poaching liquid and cover with parchment paper. Simmer, turning pears occasionally, until pears are tender, for about 30-40 minutes. Remove pears from the pot.
  • Simmer the poaching liquid to reduce slightly, for about 15 minutes. Then discard lemon zest, cinnamon sticks, and star anise. Let cool.
  • Serve pears on serving plates with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Pour the reduced poaching liquid.
